About Open Ending
Open Ending is a site about films that refuse to hand you the answer.
Most "ending explained" content is a recap. It tells you what happened, in order, and stops there. That is not what we do.
What We Actually Do
We start from the source. That means the director's own words, the screenwriter's intent, the production history, box office records, review scores, and the documented differences between cuts and between a film and its source novel.
When a director has stated an interpretation, we quote it and cite it. When they have deliberately left something open, we say so instead of inventing certainty. When critics and audiences disagree, we show you both positions and tell you where we land.
Every claim on this site is traceable to a named source. You will find the sources listed at the bottom of each article.
What We Don't Do
We do not pretend there is one correct reading when the filmmaker built the film to resist one. We do not pad articles with plot summary you already watched. We do not publish a theory without telling you it is a theory.
Editorial Standards
- Numbers come from primary sources: Box Office Mojo, The Numbers, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, studio data.
- Director quotes are attributed to a specific interview, with the outlet named.
- Where a film exists in multiple cuts, we compare them rather than picking one silently.
- Articles are reviewed before publication and updated when new information surfaces.
How We Make Money
This site is supported by display advertising. We do not accept payment for a favourable reading of any film, and no studio has editorial input on anything published here.
